Our Mission

“The Mission of the Department of Emergency Services is to always be prepared, provide incident management, and quality medical care for the citizens and patrons of Haywood County.”

Mission Key Focus:

  • Preparedness
  • Incident Management
  • Quality Medical Care

Core Values:

  • Safety
  • Commitment
  • Accountability
  • Compassion

PREPAREDNESS includes equipment, supplies, and staff of Emergency Services, both Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Services. Our training, performance, equipment and supplies should remain operational and ready for staff to use.

INCIDENT MANAGEMENT skills are provided to all staff in order to perform their essential jobs. We want our citizens, partnering agencies and internal staff to operate safely, efficiently and effectively when operating in the performance of their duties.

QUALITY MEDICAL CARE is expected each and every day from our Department. This includes the essential lifesaving skills, but also helpful compassion when attending to the needs of our patients, family members and friends.

SAFETY  of our citizens, staff and partnering agencies is a paramount core value. This includes proper personal protective equipment but is also a culture of safety in everything we do.

COMMITMENT to serving the citizens and visitors of Haywood County at each step of our daily duties. Commitment to our Mission and Core Values will help us save lives more effectively.

ACCOUNTABILITY is everyone’s responsibility. We all must hold ourselves accountable and have a mindset to “Do the Right Thing,” even when nobody is watching! Failure to follow the standard operating guidelines set forth is not an option.

COMMITMENT to serving the citizens and visitors of Haywood County at each step of our daily duties. Commitment to our Mission and Core Values will help us save lives more effectively.

COMPASSION for our patients and the citizens we serve is a key value embedded in everyone. We must remember when we are responding to emergencies that we encounter citizens and responders on their worst day. Every call from a citizen is an “emergency” to them and they are our customers. A family member may be deathly ill or a horrendous situation could be present and they may not be prepared to completely cope at the time. Displaying compassion will reduce the stress and ultimately become what the citizen remembers about you and the Department.

When it comes to our mission and core values, it takes vigilance to remember and utilize all components to do our job.
