Heavy wind, rain, then snow
Thursday, January 12, 202
A cold front will cross the area today bringing the threat of severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and a few brief tornadoes.
Cold air and lingering moisture behind the front will cause the rain to change to snow across the North Carolina mountains late tonight.
Snow showers will continue across the mountains, mainly along the Tennessee border through Friday night.
Heavy snow is expected above 3500 feet, with lighter snow below 3500 feet in the counties along the Tennessee border.
