Isaias Update 10/9

Oct 9, 2026 | Severe Weather, Updates

Rainfall totals map from the National Weather Service showing rainfall totals ranging from 1.5 inches in the northern end of the county to 3-4 inches in the southern end of the county.

Looking carefully at the rainfall totals map graphic, you'll notice that MOST of Haywood County is in the green 1-1.5 inch rainfall total range.

The southern portion of the county where the Pisgah National Forest is located is in a slightly higher range, 2-3 inches. Heavier rain falling in the southern portion of the county could drain into the Pigeon River.

We may see higher river levels, but severe flooding is NOT expected from this storm as of this forecast.

We're keeping a close eye on this system as it develops.

The rainfall totals and wind conditions have risen some since the last update. The southern end of Haywood County (Cruso and Lake Logan) will see the heaviest rain. Rainfall totals will taper off toward the northern end of the county. We can expect nuisance flooding, meaning some low-lying streets may flood and some smaller branches may have minor flooding. We do not expect major or widespread flooding with this storm.

Steps to prepare:

1. Sign up for Haywood Alerts

2. Make sure Emergency Alerts are enabled on cell phones

3. Set up and tune your weather radio to 162.400

4. Have emergency kits handy

5. Remember: If sirens sound... Hi-Lo, it's Time to GO!
